ESS - the Victron Energy Energy Storage System is a special type of energy system that integrates a grid connection with a Victron inverter/charger, a GX device (controller) and a battery system. It allows you to store solar energy in a battery during the day to be used later when the sun is no longer shining.
If the ESS is able to produce more electricity than it can use and store, the system diverts the excess to the centralized power grid. On the other hand, if the battery does not have enough energy or capacity, the ESS automatically takes it back from the grid.
An added benefit is that a diesel or petrol generator can also be connected to Victron energy's Energy Storage System (ESS) if required. If the generators are additionally equipped with automatic starting mechanisms, then the ESS will be able to start and stop them exactly when needed.
